Research Ready
I’m constantly surprised by the dedicated community of OS X shareware and freeware coders. Their dedication inexpensively fills in any application gaps on my Mac.
Take Journler by Philiip Dow, for instance. This smart little app could be seen as just another fancy text editor; but that would not do it justice.
It’s beautiful Aqua interface sits on top of a very useful research tool. For those of you more familiar with Windows and Office, think OneNote but designed with thought, care and style.
From the intuitive use of tagging, labels and smart folders to the ability to handle many forms of media and links (including your iSight for Video, Images and Sound), this app is a real aid to research and note taking. Heading off to college with your new MacBook? Add this app to boost your productivity in class (while giving you an excuse to keep your Mac open) and learn how to allocate time more effectively with it’s built in task manager written around the GTD (Getting Things Done) methodology.
One of the cooler features is the seamless ability to export a note straight to your blog (I’m writing this post in Journal, right now), but if you’re not a blogger share your work with friends via email or take them on the road on your iPod.
OK, so your sold? So how much? Well for personal use (and that means anyone not using the software in a commercial environment) it’s free (there’s a donation page if you want to show your appreciation for the work gone into it). For everyone else it’s $24.99 – a bargain for all the features.
