ClapperWe all like to think that we can change the world and all reasonable people believe that we all have the right to freedom of speech and expression.

More than most mediums, the Internet would be considered to be one of the easiest ways to express that right to a wide audience without social prejudice. The ‘Blog’ is one of the more successful enabling technologies that lets people utilize the Internet for written personal expression – ‘Podcasts’ look to be capturing the imagination of many as an audio alternative.

Got the spam blues?

ClapperWith over 90% of all email now estimated to be spam and our dependance on it as an instant form of communication, how are ordinary users managing to wade through the rubbish to get to the email that counts? Corporate users have more sophisticated tools that are deployed for them, but how do you ensure you get the email from your sister in Australia and not get the ‘physical enhancement’ drug offer?

Here’s how I manage to never read spam (and I won’t expect you to send your bank details for the privilege of reading it).

Video to go, OS X

ClapperWith the iPod still riding the wave of success and leaving its competition in the dust, some analysts predict that portable video players built around the same concept are set to become the next big thing. Devices like the Sony PSP and the Zen PMC from Creative already capturing the hearts of early adopters worldwide.

Prices are still high and until recently, i’ve been hauling a dvd wallet around to entertain myself for long trips on bad airlines. Now however, I have discovered (late to the game, I’m sure) the joy of converting dvd into ‘usable’ files and keep a collection on an external portable hard disk. I copy the movies I want to watch across to my powerbook and I’m good to go.
